St. Francis would like to invite all parish sponsored CYC teams in grades 1 through 8 from throughout St Louis and St Louis County (sorry, no parochial division teams) to participate in their tournament.  In accordance with South County CYC rules, grades 1 through 3 will play 8 v 8, all others will play 11 v 11.  The SFA Soccer Tournament is a three game round robin format providing a three game guarantee.  Acceptance is on a first come, first accepted basis.

All participants in the Atom and Bantam divisions will be presented participation awards.  In the older divisions, the 1st and 2nd place teams will receive a team and individual trophies.

Congrats to CYC Scholarship Winners

If you coach or play CYC sports you may be familiar with the CYC leadership in your district.  You may realize that the volunteer work of all the folks in your district make sure that each and every sport you coach or play runs smoothly, is administered fairly and provides great sporting events to all the girls and boys on your teams.  You might see them at your District Championship Playoff games.

However these men and women do more than just that.  They also have created scholarship programs to help CYC participants with their high school expenses.  Annually they award scholarships to 8th grade students heading off to high school, to make the transition easier for the child and the parents.  Here are two of the districts that award such scholarships, and the CYC recipients.

South County District awarded CYC Scholarships to:
  • Shane Doherty, SMMA will be attending St. John Vianney High School,
  • Jennifer Rustige, Queen of All Saints, will be attending Ursuline Academy,
  • Patrick McCaffrey, St. Francis of Assisi, will be attending St. John Vianney High School,
  • Elaine Mahon, St. Justin Martyr, will be attending Cor Jesu Academy
  • Alexander Shaver, St. Domonic Savio, will be attending St. Louis University High School
  • Anna Stahl, Seven Holy Founders, will be attending Cor Jesu Academy
North County District - John LePage Scholarship winners:

  • Kelly Mahaffy, Sacred Heart, will be attending Duchesne High School
  • Tristan Morgan, Christ Light of the Nations, will be attending DeSmet High School

CYC players now State Champions!!!

Congratulations to the many former CYC players who earned High School State Championships this spring in the state of Missouri.  There are too many players to mention their names individually, but we can recognize the Catholic schools that advanced to the final games in their respective sports.

  • Boys Volleyball - Class 4A Champions - St. Louis University High School (incidentally, coached by  CYC   Sports Director - Paul Scovill)      Class 3A Champions - Vianney High School  2nd Place - Bishop DuBourg High School.  The majority of boys on these 3 teams played CYC volleyball in grade school.

  • Girls Soccer - Class 3A 3rd Place - Cor Jesu    Class 2A  Champions - Visitation Academy  2nd Place - Notre Dame High School    Class 1A 2nd Place - Trinity High School.  Again, the majority of girls on these teams played CYC soccer growing up.

  •  Baseball - Class 4A Champions - CBC High School    Class 3A Champions - Bishop DuBourg High School.  Many of these players started their baseball careers on CYC baseball fields.

  • Girls Lacrosse - Champions - Nerinx Hall High School  2nd Place - Ursuline Academy.  Although none of these girls played CYC lacrosse in grade school, the Ursuline Bears team facilitated the first year of Girls CYC lacrosse this spring.  Nearly 100% of players on these two teams played at least one CYC sport growing up in St. Louis.

  • Water Polo - Champions - DeSmet High School.  The CYC does not have offer water polo, or even swimming, but many of these players participated in other CYC sports before entering High School.

  • Track and Field - Nerinx Hall and Cardinal Ritter both placed in the top 10 in their Classes at the State Track Meet.  Many of the girls on both these squads remember participating in CYC track meets on those spring Saturday mornings in grade school.

  • Golf - DeSmet, Chaminade, CBC, St Louis University High School and St. Mary's all had golfers medal at the state golf championship.  John Knox, CYC golf coach and district coordinator said he recognized a lot of golfers names on this list, from their participation in the CYC golf league.  CYC golf continues to grow, and currently has nearly 2300 girls and boys participating this year.

The CYC is proud of not only state champions, high school athletes, but all our athletes that participate at the grade school level, whether they continue to play in high school or not.  Plus we would like to thank all the coaches, managers, officials and administrators, that volunteer their time to make CYC sports such a positive experience for all our young athletes.

Wild Night at the Rascals

Sections 108 and 110 at T.R. Hughes Ballpark were rocking Friday night, June 11th with CYC players, family and friends.  Despite the Washington WildThings defeating our River City Rascals 3-2 everyone seemed to have a great time.  Beginning with the parade around the outfield, to the CYC First Pitchers, including the CYC batboys and girl there was never a dull moment.  Every half inning there were contests, giveaways, dancing on the dugout and mascot antics.  Everyone left with a smile on their face, an enjoyable evening for all...except the Rascals themselves.

Be sure to go to http://www.cycstl.net/events/cyc-nights to see what other fun CYC days and nights are coming soon to a field or gym near you.
