3 Sundays in September - HS Coed Kickball

A Coed High School Kickball League, the short fall season, is forming for 3 Sundays in September.  Form a team of at least 5 boys and 5 girls and you are ready to go.  Come join the fun Sunday evenings, September 12th, 19th and 26th at the Meyer Youth Center.  We are only accepting 8 teams.  If you were thinking about trying kickball, but didn't want to commit to a full 10-12 week league, this is the perfect way to get together with friends in a fun atmosphere and give it a try.  More details and the registration form can be found by clicking here, or call Buzz Swanston at 353-8911 ext.13.  Deadline to sign-up is September 3rd.  This is a great way to kick start your 2010 school year!

CYC ID question, "If I send my Birth Certificate will it be secure?"

This is a common question people ask when using the online CYC ID card process.  It is a very good question, and one we do not take lightly.  Our website uses a secure certificate and digitally encrypts every transaction between your computer and the website.  Meaning that all information you enter (including your legal documents and photos) is securely encrypted before being sent to our server.

Once we print your ID card, the legal documents you submitted are permanently deleted.  So in the very rare chance that someone would compromise the security of our server, they would still not be able to retrieve your legal documents.

Hopefully that will ease everyone's concern about sending their birth certificate to us for the ID Card process.

CYC @ MYC - Football Fest - Saturday, Sept 4

Saturday, September 4th, at the Meyer Youth Center at 4354 South Kingshighway, the CYC and Rams are sponsoring a 5 vs 5 Touch Football Fest.  This event is in coordination with the CYC Day at the Rams.  This is a one day event.  Put together a team of 5th and 6th graders, or 7th and 8th graders to come play two games of "no contact" football.  Teams will play 2 games that day.  The games will consist of 25 minute halves.  For more details and how to enter a team, click here!

Be sure to Thank your Ground Crew

Softball and Baseball playoffs take place because of many hours of volunteer work.  Currently West County is hosting the softball playoffs, while St. Louis City is hosting the baseball playoffs.  Of course, we all realize that our coaches volunteer their hours, but at each field there are concession stand workers, field coordinators, announcers and field workers.  So while you are watching your kids play, please take a moment to thank all those folks for all the time they have given to make the playoffs a special day for your team.

We also wanted give a special thanks and praise to the crew at St. Monica for their hard work on getting the fields ready to play the late game Tuesday night, after a storm rolled through late in the day.  Jim Belt, Patrick Masterson, Paul Counts, Josh Pribe, John Canady, Dan Siemer, John Benben and Greg Siemer  worked hard to get 2 softball fields ready to go by the 8:15 game.  We know the parents and players will remember the game, but without your effort, that game would not have taken place Tuesday.  So be sure to say thanks to volunteers who rake the dirt so our kids can play in the dirt!  Thank you, gentlemen!

Coaches impress umpire with their Random Act of Sportsmanship

George Krumm has been umpiring softball and baseball for CYC teams for many years.  Recently he had the privilege of working a South Central district championship game involving the 6th grade baseball teams from Immacolata and Ste. Genevieve.  The winner of this game would advance to the Archdiocesan Playoffs, so the boys were excited and emotions were high.  As you would expect there were some very close calls.  The Immacolata coaches, Vince Keady and Mark Niemeyer displayed true sportsmanship by making sure their players did not get overly emotional.  Umpire Krumm wrote, "...the manager had a pleasant conversation on a field ruling I made. He was within his right to protest, but elected to politely disagree and let his team deal with the ruling.  This team is a class act..."

Thank you to the Immacolata coaches and players for demonstrating what CYC sports is all about.  You demonstrated how you can be a hard working, competitive team and still display outstanding sportsmanship.

If you witness an exceptional Random Act of Sportsmanship while you are a player, coach, official or spectator, please share that experience with us, so we can recognize each Act of Sportsmanship.  Simply send and e-mail to buzzswanston@archstl.org or call 353-8911 ext. 13.
