"Joseph - embodied the mission of CYC Sports!"

Congratulations to Joseph Rothkopf, first baseman for the 6th grade Holy Spirit baseball team.  He is the latest receipient of a Random Act of Sportsmanship (RAS) award.  Joseph's sportsmanship was noted not only by the first base umpire, but also the first base coach for the opponents, St. Genevieve DuBois.  Joseph was supportive of his teammates, especially his pitcher.  He always remained positive in his comments and encouragement, even while St. Genevieve chipped away at the Holy Spirit lead.  He complimented the opponents on their good hit when they got to first base, and told the first base coach about good plays his team made when they were in the field.  After a few innings, the first base coach said, "I like your attitude, first!"  And he told the umpire "that is the type of player I like on my team."

The umpire concluded, "Joseph played the game with sportsmanship, respect and had fun.  He embodied the mission of CYC Sports!"

Way to go Joseph!  We hope your attitude is contagious.  We should all have such a positive attitude and share it with others.

If you see an Random Act of Sportsmanship by a player, coach, official or fan, please send a brief email describing that act to buzzswanston@archstl.org so we can recognize them too.  Good Sportsmanship makes Great Sports!
