Changes coming to Softball in 2017

After the 2016 season an inter district committee of baseball/softball coaches and directors met monthly to address issues that caused problems for CYC Baseball/Softball. Recommendations came out of this committee that were approved by the CYC Executive Board. These recommendations included changing base and pitching distances, instructions for coaches, a new approach to Pre-K and K programs and the trial of a Split Season for 5th through 8th grade teams.

The Split Season will work as follows. From the start of the season through May 21 teams will play games within their district as they have in the past. Then after Memorial Day, June 2 through June 29 teams will be divided into 3 levels of play based on their play up until Memorial Day. The 3 levels have been designated as Red, White and Blue. Each level will include teams from other districts. Leagues will be reformed and the second half of the season will be 5 games in these Cross District Leagues.

Finally, after Fourth of July, an abbreviated Archdiocesan Playoff will be held for each level from July 6 through 9. Teams qualify for the Archdiocesan Playoffs based on their second half record.

After the 2017 season the Split Season format will be reevaluated to determine the best way to proceed.

Youth Softball - General Information

The 2017 CYC Softball season begins in April.
(See below for information about registration, ID cards, etc.)

1. If you are Catholic, contact the parish you are registered in. Youth teams are formed through your local Catholic parishes.

2. If you are non-Catholic, contact the Catholic parish whose boundaries you live within. Click here to use the Parish Finder. Then enter your home address to determine which parish that you reside within.

If the parish that you are registered in, or that you reside in, is unable to, or does not participate in the CYC program, please contact the District that your parish is in or contact the CYC Office at (314) 792-7256 for further information on placement of players on teams that are participating in the Archdiocesan program.

All players need an official CYC ID Card to participate in the program. You can apply for your card online.
You can find dates for upcoming live ID Card sessions here.

All coaches/volunteers must have completed the Archdiocese's Protecting God's Children Workshop, which is coordinated by the Safe Environment Program, as well as have a Missouri Background check done every 2 years, and have read, signed and returned to your parish the Code of Ethical Conduct, These are Archdiocesan requirements that the Catholic Youth Council fully supports. You should contact your parish for details about these requirements and/or copies of the forms.

All Coaches/Managers, Kindergarten-8th grade, in the CYC-Sports program also need to have attended the CYC Coaches Training program, "Coaching to Make a Positive Difference". CLICK HERE to go to the online training course. This class needs to be completed prior to the start of your season, and all coaches completing the program need to apply online for their "Coaching Card" or attend a live ID Card session.

PLEASE NOTE: "Out of respect for the minor age players on our teams, the CYC Sports Department requests that all visitors refrain from publicly posting any videos or pictures of CYC sponsored events unless the visitor has the express written permission from the player's parents or the CYC Sports Department to do so. This includes but is not limited to online photo-sharing and posting videos to You-Tube or similar applications."

Softball Spirit Games

2016 Softball Spirit Games

After much discussion involving district leaders and the CYC Executive Board it was decided that there will be no 2016 Softball Spirit Games. A variety of factors played into this decision, including the decline in participation in recent years along with scheduling conflicts.

Visit the Spirit of St. Louis Games page for more information.

Congratulations to all players and coaches for showing the Spirit of St. Louis over the years while representing their parish and family in the CYC sports program!
